| Cycling inWright Brothers Country: Major Taylor Cycling Club of Dayton, Ohio Interview with MTCCD Charles Love |
| DAYTON, OH - Crankin' Time Cycling caught up with Charles Love and his cycling club Major Taylor Cycling Club of Dayton, Ohio. CTC: Hey Charles Love welcome to Crankin' Time Cycling. 1. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and MTCCD? When did you seriously start cycling? MTCCD:"First let me say thank you Thomas Ward Jr. for taking interest in the newly formed Major Taylor Cycling Club of Dayton (MTCCD)." "I am a mechanic at a children's medical center who likes to cycle to work, then cycle with my club members after work. Riding my bike to work one year ago is what got me started into the cycling life. The MTCCD provides me with other nice riders who share the same passion." 2. CTC: What would you say MTCCD is best known for in your cycling community? MTCCD: "To me, MTCCD is best know for sparking the interest for cycling in the inner city of Dayton. We are a new item to the city of Dayton, no other cycling clubs tries to reach out to the inner city children." "How would you feel when an 8-yr. old child shouts "CAN I RIDE WITH YOU?" as you pass them." 3. CTC: What was the motivation that led you to start cycling or join a cycling club? MTCCD: "What motivated me to to help start this club was the diversity of the people who loved the benefits of cycling and the fact that they wanted to cycle together." "The members are growing in numbers and our goal to reach out to the children will soon come true with our first charity ride." 4. CTC: What cycling goals are you most proud of? What would you like to achieve or accomplish next? MTCCD: "The goal I am most proud of is when I completed the total courses in Townsend,Tenn. a mountain training summit. I had no climbing experience but painfully made it all the way with the help of other club members. Thanks Eddie, MACC and the rest of the clubs. My next accomplishment, is to finish the MACC's One Love Century in style knowing how hot it will be in Atlanta, Georgia." 5. CTC: What was your longest ride in one day? What was your shortest ride? MTCCD: "My longest ride in one day was 105 miles with my riding partner Cedric Hayden in the Covered Bridge Tour. My shortest ride was 6.5 miles New Years Day in the sleet cold and snow with Marc Harris." 6. CTC: What cycling event left the biggest impact on you as a person? MTCCD: "The cycling event that impacted me most was the The Ohio Scioto River Valley Tour. It was my first century ever that day but I had to do it again to get back home. Coming back home in the thunder, lightining and rain I did it safely and enjoyed it. The best part was I was never alone, thank you Major Taylor's of Columbus,Ohio." 7. CTC: Would you recommend anyone taking on cycling as form of recreation? MTCCD: "I would recommend anyone and everyone taking up cycling as a form of recreation. I personally would let them use my own bike just to let them have a taste of this wonderful exercise." 8. CTC: Was there anything funny that happened on any of your rides? MTCCD: "The funniest thing happened on my 50th birthday ride when I planned to ride 50 miles in Atlanta,Ga. with the MACC Club. After riding 33 miles, resting and eating Rod, Greg, Mr. Frisky and I started back home when my rear derailleur shot ahead of me. The MACC team quickly turned my bike into a single speed and then hammered me back home so I could feel their love. On that day I knew I had to get our club started." 9. CTC: Was there anything that scared you on any ride? MTCCD: "I was on a training ride when I lost my concentration on the bike trail and drove into the grass and took a header. All I could think was to not let my new carbon bike hit the ground no matter how bad my head and shoulder hurt. I was scared during the whole event, but my bike was safe and I was wearing the proper safety cycling equipment, so I lived to ride again." 10. CTC: What would say are your favorite club rides and your favorite organized rides? MTCCD: "I'm sorry I can't say I have a favorite club ride or organized ride because this is my first year as a rider. I'm sure nothing will compare to cycling with a group of people who all love the idea of sitting on the saddle and letting the wheels roll them into a healthier life style." The MTCCD has the best bike trails in the USA. The bike trails are connecting the cities together and making commuting easy. We are a small city surrounded by massive farm land so that makes country road riding the best ever. We are a cycling town since the Wright brothers had their shop here. The same Wright brothers who invented the airplane, sweet. Come take a ride with our club and meet our top guns Cedric Hayden, Jahan Culbreath and me, Charles Love. Don't want to hammer?, then come and criuse with the rest of the club who, will make you feel at home.
